PS I envy you the range of shops selling beautiful paper you have in the US. Here in the UK, it is very limited.
I think there might be a few things that you can do: 1. apply glue on the ditch between the spine and cover boards so that the cover paper adheres to the other side; 2. apply glue around the slits in between the paper to close it off. 3. Use book cloth, which is tougher, but you will have fray edges.
I really like your books though, they are really nice!
