How do i attach the pages to the cover? what stitch do I do? Do you have a step by step explaining this?

I am a student and have a question. When you have a paper covered book, do you glue the board side first or the back of the paper and whats the best glue..I am afraid the paper may buckle or tear when I crease it..thanks for your great tips.
