Wrapped under this beautiful purple textured paper are 3 sheets of paper goodies. I undoubtedly saved this wrapping paper.

I have been a fan of the decorative paper designed by Chicago-based stationery company Snow & Graham for quite some time now. Their Cherry Bloosom design always has a special place in my heart. You can find these designs not only as decorative paper (which they marketed them as "wrapping paper"), but also on their various stationery products.



I generally do not like flowery prints, but S&G's flowers are so simple and "2D" that I just adore. Their designs tend to stay between 2 to 5 colors, thus creating simple graphic patterns that are bold and sharp.

I just acquired a few sheets of the Nepalese lama li paper which are really interesting (with interesting names, too!)

I really haven't bought decorated paper for a while. It must have been more than half a year! There has been some new designs in Kate's lately and here are some of my selections.

These long-stitch books are covered with decorative paper without adhesive to the case. They are simply wrapped around the card-stock case, similar to the previous Thick Long Stitch book.)

Each of the section is a one-sheet coated card-stock. Initially I was planning for the books to be sculptural, as my plan of using coated card-stock was to give it a firm and crisp look from the outside without usable pages. They should just look as is for display. Then it dawned on me that they can be used as albums as well.

Since the sections are strong and firm, they could allow photos to be attached onto them. The considerable amount of empty space inside and between sections could also accommodate additional objects on them.

In this button-hole book, the cover boards flushed directly onto the spine opening, differs from the usual form that the the cover boards have cut-outs to exaggerate the opening on the spine (see F-T). The inside rainbow sections are just the same as in the previous books that I have made, such as Golden Rainbow Minature Book.

Prior to cutting my thumb, I finished a photo book for my cat, Sasha. I started this project a few weeks ago, when I had this idea to sew all the photos together single-sheeted. I haven't done a lot of single-sheet sewing, which is apparently a huge challenge for me. This one took me at least 4 hours to sew. The sewing process was really frustrating, as I had to redo it many times.

Each photo was printed on Epson photo paper, and each is layered between water color paper. The water color paper is slight larger than the photo paper. Each sheet is separately pieced and sewn. The sewing is a two-needle coptic, hence there are 2 pairs of sewing stations.

Near the end of the sewing, I ran out of threads. Most of the time one would attach another thread to continue sewing, however, for single-sheet sewing, it is tricky. I can't really hide the knot of the extension. I left it outside the spine, and it's heinous. I thought since it's already taken me a few hours to get to that point, I really didn't feel like re-sewing the whole thing. I just left it at that.

This book basically uses the same techniques for the non-adhesive cover as this earlier pamphlet. On each cover, 2 pieces of decorative paper criss-cross each other on both sides of the bookboard, folded back on the edges of the board, thus interlocking each other. 2 sections are attached to the spine, while the spine is inserted into the covered bookboards.

As for the materials, the sections use graph paper, and the outside uses something that I don't really know what it's called. Well, it's handmade, the white spiral patterns are in fact, translucent. I vaguely believe that they are called banana paper, but not exactly sure. Anyhow, the translucent spiral pattern allows the bookboard's tan color to seep through.
